In “Birches,” Robert Frost celebrates imagination as a way to escape life’s difficulties and reconnect with innocence. The speaker wishes to “get away from earth awhile” but also understands that he must eventually return to reality. Think about the role of imagination in your own life. How does imagination help you cope with challenges, boredom, or stress?
Imagination is a very useful tool in times of stress, worry, and boredom. Personally, I mainly use imagination in times of boredom, such as in class or on a long car ride. Imagination and picturing things in my head allows me to pass the time and almost watch a movie in my own brain. Imagination also helps me in times of stress, as I like to picture the outcomes and how I could possibly avoid them or achieve them. In times of worry, imagination acts as a soothing tool to let me get my mind off of negative thoughts.
Today in class, we read a new Frost poem and started our project.
I learned today how to dig deeper into a long poem and identify literary devices.
