Describe a time when you took a hiatus from something important. What led to the break, and how did it impact you?

I took a hiatus from volleyball in 9th grade. I was doing badly in one of my classes because all of my time was being spent at volleyball practices, games, and tournaments. Because I was doing badly in the class, I decided to stop playing for a little bit to get my grades up and to relax a little bit. It impacted me by allowing me time to adjust and prepare for the next season, and I learned how to better manage my time.

In class, we learned 3 new rhetorical devices.

I learned that a rhetorical question can be answered with yes or no.

Write about a time when you realized you needed to look out for yourself in a silly or harmless situation—maybe dodging a pop quiz, escaping a group chat argument, or remembering at the last second to submit an assignment. How did choosing wisely make your life easier?

The last scene forces readers to reinterpret Emily’s entire life. Write about a moment when new information changed your perception of a person or situation. How did that “plot twist” reshape your understanding, the same way Faulkner’s ending reshapes the story?
