Think about a moment when your understanding of your family changed as you got older. How did that shift impact your perspective, and how does that connect to Chris’s realization about his parents in Chapter 11?

A moment when my understanding of my family changed was the first time I saw my mom arguing with my grandmother. This changed my understanding as I realized that all parents fight with their children and it even continues until older age. It made me feel better about fighting with my parents occasionally as I knew then that it is completely normal. It connects to Chris’ discovery because it shows my understanding of my parents and humanized them and their faults.

In class we read chapter 11 and did worksheets.

I learned about Chris’s family and the issues they had.

Write about a time when you realized you needed to look out for yourself in a silly or harmless situation—maybe dodging a pop quiz, escaping a group chat argument, or remembering at the last second to submit an assignment. How did choosing wisely make your life easier?

The last scene forces readers to reinterpret Emily’s entire life. Write about a moment when new information changed your perception of a person or situation. How did that “plot twist” reshape your understanding, the same way Faulkner’s ending reshapes the story?
